Al Rahba Hospital’s 4th National Women’s Health Conference To Address Top Healthcare Issues Women Face
(27 November 2013)

Al Rahba Hospital will be holding its 4th National Women’s Health Conference on 29-30 November 2013 in Abu Dhabi. The comprehensive two-day conference aims to create awareness on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of major women’s health issues that are prevalent in the UAE. Al Rahba Hospital is operated by SEHA and managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International.

The event targets health professionals and anyone with an interest in women’s health. Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has accredited the conference for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and has awarded the program 13.5 CME hours Category 1.

The fourth edition of the conference brings to light common health conditions and diseases among women, including breast cancer, diabetes, blood disorders, cardiovascular diseases and hypertension to name a few. Through a series of engaging presentations and panel discussions, eminent women speakers from the UAE’s health care sector will share a wealth of knowledge on disease prevention and improving women’s health and general well-being.

In its fourth year, the National Women’s Health Conference is successfully established as a venue for learning, knowledge sharing and inspiration among women in the UAE.

Commenting on the event, Dr Nellie Boma, Chief Medical Officer at Al Rahba Hospital and Conference Chairperson, said, “We believe that women working together in an enlightened culture can make a huge difference to the community. Every year, our aimhas been to assemble an extraordinary line up of renowned women speakers and top doctors who not only address topics critical to women’s health, but also help improve general health and well-being standards among women in the UAE. We hope to do the same this year”

On the need for creating a distinct platform to address women’s health issues, Dr Boma said, “Even in our modern day society, women largely deny themselves proper health care or take preventative measures to protect their health. It is crucial to empower women to become role models for healthy lifestyles in their families. Therefore, we invite and encourage women from both, the health care sector as well as general public, to attend this stimulating and thought-provoking event.”

Commentary from past and presentspeakers at the National Women’s Health Conference:

1. Dr Jalaa Taher -Acting Manager non-Communicable Disease Department, HAAD – Al Rahba’s National Women’s Health Conference is a very well organized event that addresses relevant health care topics for women, attracts experts in the field and enjoys good attendance. The passion of the event organizing team, led by Dr Nellie, is what helps make it a successful event year after year.

2. Dr Fatma AlMarashi – Chief of Service, Internal Medicine, Al Rahba Hospital
The Conference is one-of-a-kind event that addresses women’s diseases and problems that not many other conferences do. Women have specific health issues – from a psychological, social and physical perspective – which this conference tackles.

It is a brainchild of Dr Nellie Boma, whose efforts and dedication we highly appreciate. It highlights the role of women in health management and brings many doctors and leaders to discuss prevalent health problems.

3. Dr Ritu Nambiar – Chief of Service – Ob/Gyn, Al Rahba Hospital
The genesis of the idea for the conference came from the fact that women in healthcare industry were doing a tremendous job in improving the delivery of healthcare for the women in the community. Dr.Boma conceptualized a platform where women leaders in the healthcare industry would talk on the burning issues related to women’s health, not limited to obstetrics. So the conference has physicians from various specialties talking about top morbidities in women, to a target population of physicians, nurses and allied health care professionals alike, reaching out, educating and sharing their knowledge and experience in a fun filled environment. The success of this conference may be measured by the increasing numbers of attendees with expected delegates to cross 1500 this year!
